Every other day a new AI recruiting tool launches. Most are wrappers. Here's the shortlist that actually saves recruiter time, sorted by what to buy and what to skip.

Built into the ATS — buy when included

AI screening, JD generation, automated note-taking, async interview scoring. If your ATS includes them, use them. Standalone equivalents add integration overhead with no quality lift.

Standalone — worth a separate seat

Outbound sourcing tools with real-time deliverability data. Reference-check automation that actually structures the response. Both have specialised data that no ATS will rebuild internally soon.

The skip list

AI coaching for interviewers (low signal, high creep). AI-generated rejection emails (candidates can tell). AI 'matching' tools that don't share their training data. Anything sold primarily on 'we use GPT' rather than on outcomes.
